What is in the catalogue?
Our online catalogue contains descriptions of documents and objects held by
Bromley Historic Collections, Archives and Museum Service. The Service aims to collect,
preserve and make accessible records and objects of the London Borough of
Bromley and its predecessor authorities as well as other records and objects
relating to the area currently known as the London Borough of Bromley.
The collections held by the service include:
- Records of Church of England parishes. We hold records (original or
microfilm) of more than 20 Anglican churches, including registers from the
16th century. Many parishes have deposited further material of vestry
minutes, poor law material [before 1834] and various other documents;
- Records of the London Borough of Bromley and its predecessor authorities
[e.g. Bromley Local Board, Bromley Urban District Council, Bromley Borough
or Corporation, Beckenham Local Board, Beckenham Borough, Bromley Rural
Sanitary Authority, Bromley Rural District Council, Orpington Urban District
Council, Penge Urban District Council and the Chislehurst part of
Chislehurst and Sidcup Urban District Council];
- Records relating to the Bromley Union Workhouse at Locksbottom [Porter's
admission and discharge books, minutes and valuations];
- Businesses [Accounts, order and day books];
- Landed estates [Deeds, plans and Manorial Rolls];
- Schools [Admission registers, log books and minutes];
- Societies, clubs and charities [Minutes, scrap books and score books];
- Individuals [Certificates, collections of postcards, historical material
and research];
- Parish Council minutes [relating to civil parishes];
- Tithe maps and apportionments;
- Some Non-conformist church records [Methodist and Baptist]
- Archaeological finds
- Ethnographic collections, including the Lubbock Collection
- Natural history collections
- Decorative Arts
- Fine Arts
- Numismatics (medals and coins)
- Social history collection
Not all our archive items are catalogued and available for online searching.
