TitlePenge Parliament
Date1926- 1959
Administrative HistoryThe Penge Parliament was a debating society. It started in 1926 and was known as the Kenilworth Debating Society and Penge Parliament until it moved from Kenilworth Hall to the old council hall, Beckenham in February 1950. Its structure and procedure was based on the national Parliament, having, for example, a speaker, parties, and Kings' speech at the opening of each session. The house met every Tuesday during session, which usually ran October to March. Members debated national affairs with occasional discussions of local issues. Penge Parliament was suspended 1939-45 but, although revived post-war, a steady decline in interests forced its final suspension in April 1958.
